We recently held an exciting giveaway for our Ultimate Creator Bundle, and we're thrilled to announce our winner: Stephen Mayhew, a 25-year-old aspiring creator from Devon, UK 🎉
As a community of filmmakers, content creators, and video editors, we're always eager to learn from each other's experiences and creative journeys. In celebration of his win, we asked him a few questions so that you can get to know him!
Q&A with our giveaway winner
Q. How did you feel when you found out you won the Ultimate Creator Bundle giveaway?
A. Very very fortunate and grateful. All of the assets are well worth their value, the time put in to create them and compose an intuitive system where us as the user can simply drag and drop or adjust with a few clicks saves so much time, which is worth so much.
Q. What do you enjoy most about filmmaking, video editing, or graphic design?
A. Being able to be creative and apply my own flair and inspirations is what makes video editing magical. Love being able to showcase that to the world and whether the feedback maybe positive or negative, it draws attention and results which can be applied as motivation for the next project. Even love doing work that never reaches the public eye as it’s more of a hobby for me then a job.
Q. Can you share a project or creation you are most proud of, and why is it special to you?
A. This is hard as there is not a lot of projects I’m proud of at the moment. I’m currently a work in progress with the development of my work. I suppose a turning point for me where I started transitioning my style and using assets from The Good Edit club to further my creations is when I attempted to create my own clothing label. I created all of my own video material for my instagram social media page. I liked the aesthetic I created and overall feeling for the page but it’s a long way off of where I want to be and what I’m happy with.
Q. How do you think the Ultimate Creator Bundle will help elevate your creative work?
A. The wide array of assets I have at my disposal means I can be more creative with certain aspects of my work. Aspects where I would have been stuck in terms of ideas and actually being able to transition those ideas into actual flowing assets. Also, it will help provide time and alleviate stress so I can focus on other creative aspects on my future work. Cheesy as it sounds, time is money sometimes and it just helps to have the opportunity to use clean and professional assets at your disposal.
Q. What are some tips or advice you can share with fellow creators who are just starting out or looking to improve their skills?
A. Make use of the free tutorial content available on YouTube. This won’t be new news to a lot of people but I understand that procrastination is a massive problem which stops people from watching the intended helpful content and get sidetracked with watching irrelevant content that has no relation to the task in hand. This was my biggest failure and sometimes it still happens. Best thing is to commit to watching the video first. Take in as much information as possible. Then watch it a second time but also follow along by putting it into practice and note down key notes from the tutorial so you have a source of the important information for yourself. Then you can go back and quickly reference the notes if you ever needed to do any work in relation from that tutorial you watched. I find that helps with remembering and learning a new skill.
Q. Which tool or product in the Ultimate Creator Bundle are you most excited to use and why?
A. Chrome Text FX and the Gradient FX bundle. Love the jazzy theme and flexibility with box. Will add a lot of flare to my video work.
Q. What's your creative process like? How do you come up with ideas for your projects?
A. I tend to start with a mind map, jotting down anything that has inspired me. I tend to use photo references and add why they inspire me, which helps me generate my own ideas around that particular inspiration and theme.
Q. Can you share a challenge you've faced in your creative journey and how you overcame it?
A. There was a time where I was merging a 3D short animation of a logo with some effects in After Effect edit suite. For the life of me I couldn’t get the blend of the rain and my 3D logo to look realistic. Even tutorials couldn’t get me as far to solving this problem so it was a lot of trial and error. I took my teachings from the videos and through that I knew what I could try to solve the problem but it took hours, even the next day to solve this issue. But through persistence you’ll learn a lot and eventually get there.
Q. Who or what are your biggest inspirations in filmmaking, video editing, or graphic design?
A. Ezra Cohen, The Good Edit Club and Ducky3D. Amazing at keeping within a theme and creating really aesthetically pleasing content. Really inspires me to level up my work.
Q. What are your future goals or plans in your creative field, and how will the Ultimate Creator Bundle help you achieve them?
A. Looking to be a big contributor to promotional content and music videos. The bundle will give me the tools to help create the aesthetic I'm going for but also learning from the assets and hopefully understanding the process behind them as I progress in my field. I feel like I will always love to be a freelancer and be earning a sustainable living solely on that in the next five years. This bundle definitely helps forward and fast track to that goal.
